ABOUT
Laasya Art is a leading Indian art gallery established in 2013 in Palo Alto, California to promote contemporary and traditional Indian art.
Our mission is to connect both seasoned collectors and first-time buyers to Indian artists, developing greater appreciation and support for original Indian art not only within the San Francisco Bay Area but also in other cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, Austin, Boston and Washington DC.
In an effort to make Indian art more widely accessible, we provide expert guidance to our collectors throughout the buying process. Clients may visit our gallery by appointment to learn more about contemporary and modern Indian art. They can view original paintings and prints by distinguished artists such as S.H. Raza, Thota Vaikuntam, Seema Kohli, Ramesh Gorjala, Sujata Achrekar, Jagannath Paul and Nishant Dange among others. Through our wide range of services offered at Laasya Art, you may also buy Indian art online, source paintings from India or commission art by your favorite artist. We are completely committed to providing our clients with an informative, low-pressure and enjoyable experience.
At Laasya Art, we ultimately believe that art plays a uniquely important role in our lives, not only bringing joy and beauty but connecting us with our humanity and culture.
The key benefits of buying art from Laasya Art gallery are as follows:
Experience the art in person
Most original paintings are physically located in our Palo Alto gallery. We invite you to view the artworks in person and see their color, texture and overall effect firsthand. Unlike when buying original art online, there will be no need to worry about whether the painting will turn out according to your expectations or if it will be a good fit for your home.
Trial period to test the art in your home
With select artists, we can offer our local collectors the opportunity to ‘live with the art’ before committing to a purchase, so that you can experience the work hanging in your home, office or other space.
Returns and exchanges for US-based clients
It is important to us that our clients are happy with the painting they have purchased, and accordingly, we do offer returns and exchanges for clients outside of the San Francisco Bay Area but within the US. Some exceptions apply, such as original paintings by the masters. We ask that clients notify us of their intent to return within 24 hours of receipt and then initiate return shipment within 48 hours of receipt (or if that falls on a weekend, on the next business day). The painting must be returned in the same perfect condition in order to be eligible for exchange or refund.
Art consulting
We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, personalized service to all our clients. Through our art advisory and curation services, we provide additional education and guidance to you throughout the art buying process, as it is important that you are fully confident in your decision to purchase a painting. Learn more about our art advisory services here.
Commissioned paintings
We will happily work with you to commission new paintings by top Indian artists customized to your specific taste, budget and space. Commissions require a rare combination of skill and experience from the gallerist in order to deliver a painting that meets the client’s vision, and fortunately over the years, we have evolved a process that works very well for both our clients and our artists. Learn more about commissioning artwork here.
“Turn-key” service
We make the process of collecting Indian art as simple as possible for you. You will not need to spend time researching an artist, finding and selecting paintings, shipping them to the US or stretching them—we’ve done all of this for you! Post-purchase, we can also assist clients with framing and installation.
FOUNDER'S NOTE
I have always loved art—I painted a lot as a child, and my first job in advertising allowed me to work
closely with both visual artists and corporate clients. I partnered with companies like Unilever to create advertising for brands including Lifebuoy and Close-Up. Looking back, those early years prepared me for the work I do now at Laasya Art as a curator and art consultant; whether communicating with artists and knowing when to challenge them or understanding client needs and delivering against them, my marketing experience in the corporate world has proven immensely valuable in the fine art world.
In 2006 after living in the US for several years, I had the opportunity to relocate to India. Being there gave me the chance to interact with many world-class Indian artists from both the traditional and contemporary art worlds. These artists generously helped me to understand more about the various types of mediums, genres, processes and techniques as well as the overall art landscape in India. It was a wonderful, eye-opening six years that reinvigorated my passion for art.
On my return to California, I wanted to establish a connection between these incredible artists in India and the community here in the Bay Area to foster a greater appreciation for Indian art. And that’s how Laasya Art was founded!
The word Laasya, in the context of Hindu mythology, describes the elegant dance performed by Goddess Parvati to express happiness. To me, that’s what art is: it brings beauty, joy and grace into our homes and our lives.
