RAMESH GORJALA BIOGRAPHY

Art by Ramesh GorjalaContemporary Indian artist Ramesh Gorjala was born into a family of weavers, and at a young age he learned kalamkari art from his uncle. After mastering this traditional form, he went on to earn a degree in fine arts from Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University in Hyderabad. His original artwork now combines tradition and modernity with effortless ease, bringing gods and goddesses to life in a fresh approach.

Steeped in the kalamkari tradition and its warm colors, art by Ramesh Gorjala is unique in its rendition of Indian mythological figures, including Krishna, Vishnu and Ganesha. The large bodies of these Hindu deities fill up the canvas, while their skin becomes the stage for ancient tales acted out by intricately painted figures—each painting literally contains stories within stories. The typical kalamkari process of using a fine pen to accentuate block-printed colors is evident in his work, and he primarily paints in red, orange, brown, blue and gold.

Ramesh Gorjala is an internationally renowned and highly sought-after artist. Some of his large-scale paintings are on permanent display at the Hyderabad International Airport, and his work is held in prestigious collections worldwide.

Ramesh Gorjala welcomes requests for commissioned paintings. If you like a painting that has sold, or if you have a particular space in mind, a custom painting can be made to your taste and specifications regarding size, color palette and other details. You are welcome to buy his paintings online or view them at our gallery in Palo Alto (San Francisco Bay Area). All artworks are hand signed by the artist and include a certificate of authenticity.
