MICHAEL SZABO BIOGRAPHY
Nature has evolved its own processes of sculpting, the artist observes, such as canyons eroded by rivers and coral reefs built by marine animals. Drawing inspiration from these phenomena, art by Michael Szabo translates the contours of waves, plants, and rock formations into minimal lines and metal. Through both studio-scale and monumental works, he seeks a balance between permanence and impermanence, between the natural and the man-made.
Michael Szabo studied fine art at the Rhode Island School of Design before returning to his native California. His work is featured in public and private collections around the world, and his public art installations can be found across the United States, including projects at the University of California, Santa Cruz; the Oregon Institute of Technology; and parks and plazas in Florida, Georgia, New York, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
