ABOUT
Laasya Art is a premier art gallery and art advisory firm for acquiring Indian art, founded in Palo Alto, California by Sonia Nayyar Patwardhan. Three core values guide everything we do: expertise, integrity and personalized service.
With deep knowledge of India’s diverse artistic traditions, we curate exceptional works from both established and emerging artists. We are committed to authenticity, working directly with artists and trusted sources to confirm every piece has clear provenance and cultural integrity. Most importantly, we offer a highly individualized collecting experience, taking the time to understand each client’s taste and goals so they can confidently build a meaningful collection.
The name Laasya—derived from the elegant dance performed by Goddess Parvati to express joy—embodies what art means to us: it brings beauty, grace and joy into our homes and our lives.
We offer the following services:
Residential Art Advisory
This is a professional service that helps homeowners select, acquire and place art within their living spaces. We take the time to understand your taste, space, lifestyle and budget, and then guide you toward building a cohesive collection. We may recommend artists from our collection as well as other South Asian and international artists that suit your needs.
Commissioned Art
For more than a decade, we have helped clients bring their creative visions to life through personalized commissioned artworks. We work closely with our artists and collectors to develop each project thoughtfully—from the initial concept and sizing, to budget and timeline. You can read more about this process here.
Private Sales
Our private sales service offers collectors a discreet alternative to the auction market and its uncertainty. We assist clients with secondary market sales on a case-by-case basis, and we conduct rigorous due diligence on both the artworks and the involved parties to ensure authenticity and compliance throughout the process. You can view our selection of paintings available for resale here.
FOUNDER'S NOTE

Art has always been an essential part of my life. My early career in advertising gave me the opportunity to work closely with visual artists through major brands such as Unilever, an experience that honed my skills in creativity and collaborating with discerning clients.
In 2006, after living in the United States for several years, I returned to my roots to India—an experience that profoundly shaped my understanding of art. I met and learned from many extraordinary artists across traditional and contemporary practices, gaining deeper insight into the materials, techniques and broader landscape of Indian art. Those six years were truly transformative and reignited my passion for the field.
Upon relocating to California, I was inspired to create a bridge between the remarkable artists in India and the Bay Area community—to foster greater appreciation and understanding of Indian art. That vision became Laasya Art.
